The campaign, which takes place on November 26 and 27 in supermarkets across the country, has the theme 'Hope', to underline the individual's ability to contribute “to improve the lives of others, with a simple gesture of sharing, especially in the context of an economic and social crisis that will predictably worsen over the next few months”, says the Food Bank in a statement.
“It is, therefore, necessary to strengthen solidarity and an additional collective effort by all Portuguese people so that it is possible for the Food Banks against Hunger to respond to the growing requests for help from the most needy Portuguese families”, states the Food Bank, which adds that it is currently helping more than 400,000 people daily, drawing attention to the “increased pressure” that the current economic context places on the neediest families.
“Tens of thousands of volunteers will be, as usual, present in supermarkets from the north to the south of the country to collect food generously donated by the Portuguese”, says the statement.
