Along with other writers Paul Murray for Bee Sting, Chetna Maroo for Western Lane, Paul Harding for The Other Eden, Jonathan Escoffery for If I Survive You, and Sarah Bernstein for Study for Obedience, Lynch was included on the shortlist for the award.

Two more Irish writers, Sebastian Barry for Old God's Time and Elaine Feeney for How to Build a Boat, were also on the long list for the 2023 Booker Prize.

Sunday night, November 26, saw the awards event held at Old Billingsgate in London. Lynch received his trophy from 2022 winner Shehan Karunatilaka.

In Prophet Song, a dystopian novel set in Dublin, the reader follows Eilish Stack, a mother of four, while her husband is questioned by a recently formed covert police unit. Lynch creates a scenario that reflects our contemporary social and political concerns by recreating Ireland as a totalitarian state complete with bloodshed and displacement.
